Y10 GCSE Homework

Here is a political cartoon from the 1919. It is called 'Peace and future cannon fodder'.

TOV - Cannon Fodder
The words underneath say 'The Tiger: "Curious! I seem to hear a child weeping!"

Question: Look carefully at the cartoon. What do you think it means?

Cheers, Sir

I believe that it means that the treaty has upset Germany, which is represented by the weeping child, and that the other representatives will eventually be attacked by Germany, as the title is "Peace and Future Cannon Fodder", and cannon fodder are troops that are worthless.

Hi Sir

This cartoon symbolises the rights given to Germnay during the Treaty of Versailles. The `Big 3` stand tall and the child dipicts Germany. It shows how harshly Germnay had been treated and how The Tiger(Clemenceau) couldn't care less about Germany and quite frankly dismisses them.

"Tiger" is the nickname for the French priminister, I think that the crying child behind the pillar means that this child will be from the generation of people who will be old enough, and asked to fight in World War 2 (1939-1945). The French Priminister and the following group of men have just discussed terms for The Peace Treaty of Versailles.

Hi Sir :)
I think that the child is weeping because he is scared there is going to be another war.

This political picture shows a copy of the treaty of versailles which was created in 1919, it also shows a child crying and above it says 1940 class, in 1940 the child would be 21 years old. Clemenceau was nicknames 'The Tiger' as he was very fierce and wanted Germany to pay for all the damage that france suffered during the years of fighting. The leaders of nations at Versailles are seen walking past there caption is "The Tiger:"Curious! I seem to hear a child weeping!". By walking past this shows that Clemenceau didn't care.

i tink the picture shows that the man knows the child is crying and is trying to be clever and make the childfeel unwelcome.

YOOOO SIRRR .. erm i think that the picture means that the child represents Germany and the other three men represent the big three and they weren't bothered about how Germany felt or what they had to say just like the three men aren't bothered about the oung child .. laterrrrrssssssss eccles (H)

The small, weeping child is saw to be Germany, and the three tall, might - looking men are seen to be the Treaty made up of Britain, France and USA. The child (Germany) is seen to be weeping as of the mis fortune they have, with having their army reduced, land taking off them and they have to accept the blame and guilt of WW1. The three men are seen as mighty as they get to decide on the punishments made for Germany, they are seen as looking down upon the child (Germany) as if they dont care of the matter that the child is infact crying and could said to might aswell of been sniggering at the fact. The child also shows to be stood in a corner, facing the wall as this is how Germany are after the war as they are left powerless against other leading countries.

I think Mr Eccles should reward the eight pupils who were first to post a comment. Well done everyone I enjoyed reading your answers.

I do think that Mr Eccles looks like his voki character and that you are lucky to have such a talented teacher.
